A pioneering figure in the Saudi Arabian art scene, Lulwah Al Homoud is acclaimed for her intricate works that transform calligraphy into geometric abstraction. Al Homoud examines the intricacies behind semantic and visual communication structures by breaking down Arabic letters into mathematically based geometric patterns in a distinct artistic process that has become Al Homoud’s trademark. Influenced by the traditions of Islamic art, Al Homoud articulates universal geometric principles in works such as Cube Within Triangles (2016), highlighting at the same time a oneness with creation. She earned a BA from American College and an MA from Central St Martins College of Art and Design. She trained under acclaimed calligrapher Rasheed Butt. Her work is in the collections of the British Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Barjeel Art Foundation.
Officially registered as a humanitarian organisation with the Charity Commission for England and Wales in 2019, Intisar Foundation is the first charitable organisation in the Middle East dedicated to providing psychological support programmes of drama therapy to Arab women affected by the brutality of war and violence.
