Italian painter Paolo Troilo produces expressive, large-scale paintings using only paint and his hands. His powerful and photorealistic images of fantastic, contorted bodies inspired by the beauty of human anatomy are full of raw emotion. A 12-year career in advertising has been influential on his work: In his paintings, Troilo relies only on black and white in a bid to move away from the commercialized use of color as a means of manipulating the viewer. This monochrome enables the viewer to recognize themselves and their own experiences in his work. Using a high quality acrylic paint, he mixes the colors with his hands and works directly on the canvas. His work has been shown at the Venice Biennale and has graced the cover of the Italian edition of Rolling Stone.
